Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Americanized tasteless Mexican food. The "deluxe lunch burrito" was the size of an enchilada and the red sauce was so bland it might have been tomato juice. I ordered "the beef", but was tempted to ask "where's the beef?". The salsa was marginal and the chips were as tasteless as the rest of the meal.

Our go to Mexican resturant! Food is always good. I FINALLY had the enchilada sauce, the sauce has a deep rich favor. But what keeps bringing us back again and again is the staff. The staff is friendly and more than attentive. Kudos go to Victor (makes a great magarita) and Elisa for fantastic service, we are treated like long lost family. Thanks again!

after read all the positive review I had really high hopes. Upon arrival we were seated quickly, but that's where the prompt service ended. After being served chips and salsa we waited another 5 minutes before we received menus and our drink order was taken. Ten minutes after the server asked if we wanted to order. We started with the ceviche and it was good not great but good. Sometime later the server took are dinner order I ordered small chili relleno plate. The relleno was a poblano pepper and was ok. The rice lacked color and flavor two bites and I decided it was not for me. The refried beans had an odd flavor. If you are looking for an authentic Mexican keep looking this is not the place.

My first time to La Hacienda 1. Chips and Salsa was great 2. Food was nice 3. Excellent service

My son and i came 5 minutes before our party arrived of 5. The two young girls who were in the front were nice but an older gentleman black hair kinda pudgy was really upset that we asked to be seated before the whole party arrived. Get this it was Monday so you know it was slow but for some reason he was very aggressively angry. You would think because it's a slow season that he would greet us with some kind of hello especially being our first time. So they set up our table and they put a high chair. When I asked that seemed such a guy why there was a high chair there, he responded with, you don't have to give that kind of face. I was shocked for not only was he rude in the front he was incredibly rude at our table. If we were not meeting three other people we would have left. I'll disagree the chips and salsa or nothing to write home about. I think crossroads is a much better place. My mother in law order chili reinos and it was hard. They did you make it but we were all finished our dinner by then they never said sorry or anything. They seem very irritated maybe that's why this place had no business. I ordered fajitas, let me tell you I'm from the Bay Area and I know my fajitas. I ordered steak fajita it was all vegetables no meat. I never comment about price because I don't begrudge anybody for making money but this was $19 and not great nothing has flavor very disappointed. I would never return to this place again and if that gentleman is the owner or the manager he really needs an attitude check

This was our first visit to this new addition to the neighborhood and I will say that it is a welcomed one. The place is colorfully yet tastefully decorated with an open feel to it. Our server was attentive and very friendly and eager to please. The fare is not your normal Sonoran style so keep that in mind. We stopped in for lunch and were quite happy with the presentation, size not to mention the quality of our meal. I recommend this place and seems to well on its way to being a neighborhood favorite.

I love this little place. The food is great and staff is very attentive and friendly.

Great place to eat! Great food & staff. Very friendly and accommodating. I asked them for a Pepsi & they are a Coke account. They promised me next time I came in they would have Pepsi in the back for me. The next they had Pepsi in the back for me & Cherry Pepsi for my wife. Great customer service! So stop in and ask for a Pepsi!!

Well I am a little mixed on this one. The interior is very well done and every inch of space is pretty much used. It can get a little loud if they are busy. The plating and presentation of the food is good. If you sit at a window booth you have a great view of the Santa Catalina range. The food has a different taste for sure. I grew up in Southern California and frequented Arizona. The taste was not something I was expecting. I am not saying it was bad but just not our style at all so I don't think we will be returning. A major problem here is they only have single user restrooms. Actually a few people were waiting to use them. This could be an issue if you plan to drink more than a beverage or two here. Overall the prices were not bad, the restaurant was clean, the service was just average. If you want to try something different this is it and maybe you will like it.

We were here on their 2nd day of opening the Oro Valley location. I like the atmosphere and was happy that they have a full bar with tasty margaritas. :-) My husband ordered a Cadillac margarita and a shot of tequila. The shot had ice in it (?) and cost more than the drink! We were a bit taken aback by that. . Love their chips and salsa! We like our salsa spicy and when we asked if they had a spicier salsa they replied YES we have a habanero salsa and it was some of the best salsa we've ever had and it had a definite kick to it They do have your typical Mexican fare and offered a couple vegetarian choices. Since we are vegan, they accommodated us and made the veggie burro without cheese and the black beans and rice were vegan as well. We will definitely be back! Our server, Nellie was awesome.

The reason I don't give this place more than 3 stars is because the service is terrible here. Extremely slow. Don't ever plan on getting in and out in less than an hour. We've been here many times and have never had a good experience when it comes to the service. The servers always seem rushed and flustered even when the place isn't busy. They never ask if you need refills, they are forgetful, and not very friendly. They also need more than just the one bartender. I've seen it wall-to-wall people in there and still just the one guy slinging drinks. The food here is great. I've tried several things on the menu and haven't been disappointed with anything I've had. They have the best carne asada and really good specialty margaritas. I think the prices are a little too high, but nothing outrageous. We are so happy to have this place so close by in Oro Valley, just wish the service would improve.
(3)Scott C.
Stopped in for lunch and sat at the bar. The owner was there and made me one of the best margaritas I've ever had. Very nice, clean restaurant with quite a few tequila choices! I had the owner pick a shrimp dish for me and it was incredible. It tasted fresh and you could tell the ingredients were high quality. They have nice happy hour choices too. I'll definitely be back.

Best Mexican food in Oro Valley, AZ!!! Ruben the owner and Victor are a super team. Food gets out fast with great quality. Check out the top shelf tequila:)
(5)Cheryl H.
Victor and Lady Dacil are excellent, food is fantastic, love this place in the OV!! Check it out!

New to Tucson, and this place is nearby. We thought their food was really good, but after reading these reviews it looks like Tucson is known for way better Mexican food elsewhere around the city. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars though was because our waitress was miserable. She was cold, irritable, and anyone who has worked in food service before knows what a dish looks like when it's been under heat lamps for way too long. The place was not crowded at all, so I'm not sure why she took too long to serve us. She needs to find a path in life that gives her some happiness. Management needs to realize that despite how good your food is, the service can completely ruin somebody's experience and make them not want to come back.
(2)Thea C.
Food taste fresh and delicious, so are their presentation. However, if you go at times when they get busy, their service is slow and they forget to bring tortillas and stuff. You kinda have to ask them everytime. But I love the variety of dishes on their menu and it definitely taste a lot healthier than many of the Mexican restaurants that we go to.
(4)Mary S.
Finally!!! A great Mexican restaurant in Oro Valley!! Place was packed on a Thursday by 5/5:30pm so arrive early. Amazing margaritas, great happy hour menu. Family friendly- baby and I ate a large bowl of guacamole :) she also ate all of her rice and beans and chicken & cheese quesadilla. My house chicken enchiladas were some of the best!!! We will be back again soon!
(5)Terri W.
Very good food with moderate prices. With so many Mexican restaurants in Tucson this is definitely on my list.
(4)Stacie S.
Wow! Just happen to stop in here on our quick stay in Tuscon during our honeymoon, boy were we pleased! We originally came in to get some take out but came during happy hour and ended up getting margaritas. They make their own in house margaritas from scratch, no margarita mix. Maybe one of the best margarita's I've had and you can't beat $4.50 on happy hour! The bartender was more than helpful and informative, even giving us great recommendations for the menu. We ended up ordering some hot chicken wings (my husbands favorite) and he was very pleased with the flavor. The service was fast and friendly. We also ordered the Pollo a la crema for take out and enjoyed it at home, the sauce was very good. We wish we had a longer stay to come back and visit again but strongly recommend!

I have alot better....the food was so different from any other mexican.....i would say try .....everybody's taste are different. .....service needs working on
(2)Tom B.
Seriously GREAT Mexican food. Some of the very best in Tucson. Clean, friendly and authentic. Muy Bueno! Que Rico!
(5)Pepper R.
This is my mom's favorite Mexican restaurant. Our only complaint is the service is horrible. You are seated and then you wait and wait and wait for someone to wait on you. It is irritating to watch people that came in after you be served first. Today I actually had great service by a wonderful waitress Lorena. If she is not here when you come be prepared to wait.
(3)Katie M.
The food was good, however over priced. The service was poor. We had to ask a bus person for drinks, chips and salsa a couple of times. Our server was either not around or inattentive. With numerous mexican restaurants nearby, we will not be returning to this one
(3)Cap'n L.
Very nice upscale decor with a full house of older folks (like me). My pork-cochinita-pibil was very good. My margarita was nothing special. Two others had enchiladas that had a "nasty" aftertaste. The final quesadilla meal was reported to be "pretty good." I liked the complementary chips and chipotle sauce, but no one else did. The small amount of ice in the ice water melted quickly. Finally, the service was acceptable, except for having to ask three times for the tortillas that came with my meal. There are too many other choices for Mexican, so I won't be back for a long time.
(3)Sandy S.
Amazing food and top notch service!! Get the Ultimate Margarita!! The Hacienda and House a delightful too!!
(5)Jerry L.
Finally! unique Mexican food in Oro Valley! Our family has been to this restaurant several times in the last couple of months. Consistent service. Quality ingredients and very clean. We will be back for more!
(5)r W.
We thought our lunch was very good today. We'll be back. Salsa was spicy enough for us and the chips warm and fresh. Ordered the large ground beef enchilada and it was good. Rice also very good. The other in our party had the chicken burrito special with sour cream. It too was good, but kinda skimpy on the sour cream, which is a dollar extra. This is southern Mexico cooking, light and not greasy.
(4)Mary M.
After three visits, the consistency in excellent food and service deserved a new review. With an added star for getting better every time. From the atmosphere to the service with a smile all the time no matter how busy, to the food which is truly delicious. If you are a fan of typical Mexican food, you will like this place. If you are a fan of true Authentic Mexican cuisine, and I am such a fan, you will LOVE this place. Every dish is freshly made (don't expect fast food here) and the presentation is always beautiful. There might be a wait but well worth it. The AH HA Carnitas are exceptional. The menu is large and full of interesting dishes, so this can certainly become a regular neighborhood venue for us. Great addition to the community.
(5)Maritza M.
This place has a great variety on the menu but it is an overpriced Nicos. I ordered shrimp ceviche and I got a bowl of tomato with cilantro and 2 shrimp. Was diasapointed with the lack of flavor. Had to ask waitress to bring more shrimp. Service was ok but slow.
(3)Pamela D.
The best Mexican food I've had since leaving southern California. House margarita is excellent as well as the guacamole. Definitely would recommend it if you are in the area.
(5)Kerry C.
Had lunch there today and was pleasantly surprised. Very friendly staff and good food! Also, good chips and salsa which is a must for any Mexican restaurant. Thank you Elisa, our waitress, for taking such good care of us. We shall return!
(4)Sabrina D.
First impressions after dining there twice have been good. Carne asada fajitas are very tasty, as was the appetizer sampler. I would say their strength is in their meat-centered dishes rather than vegetarian options. Was a little disappointed with their limited happy hour food menu and the happy hour quesadilla is on the smaller side. We appreciated that they had both small and larger combination options as well as lunch offerings. They also do takeout so it will be nice to have non-fast food Mexican takeout in the area. The prices are wee bit more than typical for Mexican food. The ambiance is nice, it is clean and bright and has a nice view of the Catalina Mountains if you are seated by the windows. Hopefully they will only improve on service, taste and price from here on out.
(4)Gail F.
Ate here last night with my husband- We had the chicken fajitas- They were prepared well and nicely seasoned- The service was very good and the restaurant was very busy- The restaurant is very clean- The drinks being brought to other tables looked good- We aren't big drinkers so we had water. The portions are small and the prices are much higher than one would expect for average Mexican food. However, prices seem to be in keeping with area.

LA Hacienda is a great addition to the Oro Valley restaurant sceen. The food was fresh, well prepared and efficiently served. The enchiladas are excellent. The bar is well stocked and the atmosphere is inviting. We have been there about a dozen times since they opened for both lunches and dinners. We have never been disappointed.

We went to this restaurant tonight because of all of the great reviews. What a mistake. We were a part of 6 with a baby. There was a wait, and the hostess (who was rather indifferent and rude) told us that it would be just a short time. It was total chaos up front... and people were packed in there like sardines.....a very little waiting area. After 35 minutes, we asked someone up front how much longer it would be, since everyone coming in seemed to be seated before us and we had children that were hungry (I believe that he was a manager). He looked at us, rather puzzled and said we don't have many tables that can seat 6. Then he proceeded to speak to other customers, not even providing some type of explanation or timeframe. Apparently he didn't want our business. We just left and will never attempt to go back. Many other potential customers also were walking out angry. I would rate this a -5 if I could due to the horrible customer service.

The food was very good! We had a party of 8 and everyone loved their food. We ordered 2 Guacamole and 2 Queso appetizers. The entrée dishes ranged from portobella fajitas to pork cochinita pibil and all were excellent. I even ate the rice, which I rarely do at other restaurants. The fried ice cream was good, but I prefer a bit more fried bits. Our server was kind enough to split the checks for all 8 of us, but insisted on numbering us and then calling us by the number. So when it came time to order, she would yell out, "Number 6, what would you like?" It wasn't awful or anything, but it didn't feel friendly. I realize that at pretty much any restaurant I walk into, my seat is assigned a number, but you're usually not called by that number. I will, however, be back next time I visit the area.
(4)Ivy C.
Everything I ordered was delish! Had ceviche mixto - awesome mix of seafood and mango. Chile verde plate and chicken enchilada suiza also really good. Couldn't stop eating their chips and salsa. It's a bit pricey for Mexican food but I'll pay for good quality. Service was quick and everyone was very attentive. Would definitely recommend.
(5)Rob D.
Very disappointing. Mediocre uninspired chain-style food along with skimpy portions, inattentive service and high prices do not make for a winning formula. Stay away!
(1)Norman S.
My wife and I finally got around to eating at La Hacienda (Oro Valley) and are kicking ourselves that we didn't do it sooner. What a great, upscale Mexican restaurant! Wonderful dishes, great choices. And Guacamole made right at your table. Nice ambiance and service. Don't miss this gem.
(5)Braxton H.
Very excited to have a Mexican restaurant in Oro Valley (finally)! Great happy hours specials and yummy food, but what stood out most to me was the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. The decor is really cute, too. A great family dinner spot!
(4)James P.
Food and service was excellent although a little pricey. This restaurant is a welcome addition to the area.
(4)Jacky S.
Great food !!!!! Very busy place but it's worth the wait :) we were a party of 6 all the food was tasty and server was great :) I highly recommend it.
(5)Tanya S.
We ate here a couple of nights ago. Overall, not bad. The service was speedy but very impersonal. Not a big deal, as our meals were pretty good, but a little surprising since they just opened this location. Salsa was good, chips were just so-so. The drinks are pretty huge, be warned! Think fishbowl size and you've got the right idea. Taco salads were fresh, but there was very little meat. Enchiladas were awesome. We will definitely be back.
(4)Sarah B.
Lackluster, VERY slow service and overpriced. Oro Valley could use a few more places to eat but I was not impressed. I will say they just opened a few weeks ago so that might account for the slow service and the nearly 35-40 minute wait for our food. Our waitress was rude at best, we had to ask multiple time for water, utensils, chips, etc. $17 for typical cheese enchiladas seems overpriced. Better options nearby include El Molinito, Mi Tierra and Las Margaritas.
(2)Jeremy W.
Reviews are great. Wish I knew. Instead I showed up at 915 pm and was turned away. The door says 930 pm closing and online says 10 pm. There were other customers inside and we just wanted a quick bite. My friends recommended this place but I suggest they make their hours accurate.
(2)Tessie K.
One of my favorite places to have Mexican food. The juevos rancheros were excellent. The service & view of the Catalina Foothills were great. Definately a keeper.
(4)Andrew T.
I was excited to see another Mexican restaurant open in Oro Valley. Not only do I love Mexican food, but I love an improving local economy. The restaurant is located in the upscale OV version of a strip mall, so it's not very large. I would definitely expect a long wait during traditionally busy times. However, it was practically empty just before closing on Valentine's Day. The food was quite good and portions were more than adequate considering the cost, which was quite reasonable. I evaluate service everywhere based on how much time my water glass goes without water. I never had to ask for water, and both the hostess and server were polite. I don't think a five star review should be posted without justification, hence my four stars for this restaurant. The food was good, the service was good, but nothing was overly spectacular. However, I will definitely be going back soon and would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.
(4)Ed L.
Would have given 4 stars because the food is very good. This is my second time here. First time waited 30 minutes. This time we made a reservation and we're seated promptly. But, that being said the service is slooooow! We waited almost an hour after ordering as we watched the restaurant clear out and saw several tables which arrived after us get their food before us. They do clear the dishes from the table rather quickly and didn't ask for refills enough.
(3)Dennis M.
Not your typical taco and burrito Mexican restaurant, but instead plates from different parts of Mexico. We have come several times and everybody has been really happy with their selections. Today I tried the Pollo Chipotle and it was awesome! Would definitely order it again. The one thing that I think they should improve is their staff are not very familiar with the menu, every time I have asked something about it they need to go ask. I believe they should know that menu inside out, including what's included with each plate and how they're make. Otherwise, really really good food... With the potential to be one of the best in Tucson.
